12 Platoons of BGB Deployed in Dhaka and Surrounding Areas Twelve platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in Dhaka and its surrounding districts to ensure overall law and order and strengthen security. BGB’s Public Relations Officer Md. Shariful Islam confirmed the deployment on Friday (14 November). He said that BGB members have already begun performing their duties to enhance security in the capital and nearby areas. Meanwhile, Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has stated that the banned Awami League will not be able to take part in the upcoming national election. He said the party is ineligible to contest the polls as its activities remain suspended under the Anti-Terrorism Act, and the Election Commission has removed the party from the list of registered political parties. The Chief Adviser made these remarks during a meeting with the UK Minister for International Development, Baroness Jenny Chapman, at the state guesthouse Jamuna in Dhaka on Thursday (13 November) evening. During the meeting, he reiterated the commitment to holding a free, fair, and inclusive national election. The two sides discussed several issues, including the February general election, preventing illegal migration, expanding bilateral trade, the Rohingya crisis, and enhancing cooperation in aviation and maritime sectors. Dr. Yunus said the national election would be held in the first half of February as scheduled, with massive voter turnout expected. Millions of young voters will cast their ballots for the first time—an opportunity they did not have in the past 16 years under three staged elections. The meeting also highlighted opportunities to boost trade and cooperation between Dhaka and London. The Chief Adviser informed that Bangladesh is purchasing a research vessel from the UK for marine research in the Bay of Bengal. Minister Chapman expressed optimism about strengthening cooperation in the aviation sector between the two countries and mentioned that the head of Airbus International will visit Bangladesh soon. National Security Adviser Dr. Khalequzzaman, SDG Coordinator Lamia Morshed, and British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cook were also present at the meeting.
